We are looking for a a Municipal Technologist to join our team.

The M.T. provides technical support to engineers and planners by designing, surveying, and inspecting municipal infrastructure like roads, water systems, and sewers. Must be proficient in using software like AutoCAD/Civil 3D to create plans, calculate costs, and manage construction projects. They play an important hands-on role in infrastructure development and maintenance. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design & Drafting: Developing detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for infrastructure projects (e.g., sewers, roads, land development) using CAD software.
  • Technical Analysis: Performing engineering calculations, such as hydrology, hydraulic modeling, and pavement design, often under the guidance of engineers.
  • Construction & Inspection: Inspecting construction sites to ensure compliance with drawings, supervising field surveys, and testing materials.
  • Project Documentation: Preparing tender documents, cost estimates, material quantities, and reports for public works projects.
  • Coordination: Working with contractors, developers, and municipal officials to manage project data and ensure compliance with municipal standards. 

Work Environment & Required Skills:
Municipal Technologists typically work in office settings for design work and on-site for inspections. They are employed by consulting firms, construction companies, and municipal, regional, or provincial government departments. They are generally considered more hands-on and application-oriented compared to engineers, who focus more on theoretical design.
