Opaskwayak Cree Nation – Aerated Lagoon
Client: Opaskwayak Cree Nation
Location: Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba, Canada
Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) retained JRCC to provide the engineering services for a new aerated lagoon to replace the existing sewage treatment plant. The existing OCN sewage treatment plant did not meet discharge requirements, despite multiple upgrades and process modifications, and, according to the operator, has never functioned properly.
The wastewater treatment project consisted of three geomembrane-lined aerated lagoon cells, fine bubble aeration equipment, two submerged attached growth reactor (SAGR) cells for tertiary wastewater treatment, phosphorus reduction by gravity upflow filtration, UV disinfection in a new sewage treatment building, and a SCADA system that provides monitoring via a secure internet connection. Additional works included an extended forcemain and upgrades to the main lift station. All new and upgraded facilities were designed to meet the projected Year 20 population of 6,706.
